Joseph DeGiacomo Learning Disability Teacher Consultant (LDT-C) works with the 9th and 10th grade full-time students and Grades 10 and 11 shared time students. He graduated from William Paterson University with Bachelor of Arts in Special Education. He has earned an M.A Learning Disabilities Concentration with Teacher Consultant Endorsement and completed Education Leadership course with a principal endorsement. Before coming West Caldwell Tech he was an educator for nine years and coaches High School football.
Karla Adams Rivera, Psy. D. graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Wesleyan University. She earned her M.A , School Psychologist Certification, and later her Doctorate degree in School Psychology from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University. Dr. Rivera is currently a member of the Child Study Team at The West Caldwell Center.
I have worked in the public school setting for over 12 school years as a school psychologist being an advocate for all children to realize their full potential regardless of their disability. My role involves conducting psychological assessments to determine eligibility for special education services, formulation and monitoring compliance of Individualized Education Plans, and providing educational counseling to address issues that may adversely affect academic achievement and school adjustment. I also provide teacher consultation, coordinate with families to assist in accessing services post high school, and carry out various case management responsibilities. In addition, I serve as the Anti-Bullying Specialist for West Caldwell Tech. In this role I conduct the investigation into reports of Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying for the building and address the incidents with students and their families with the goal of maintaining a positive and effective learning environment for all students and staff.
Sara Spoelstra MS, CCC-SLP earned a Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from William Paterson University and is an ASHA and New Jersey State-certified Speech Language Pathologist. She provides language, articulation, fluency, and cognitive therapy as well as life skills and job readiness for students. She is an active member of the IEP team for the students on her caseload and performs comprehensive speech-language evaluations in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other child study team members.
