The Essex County Schools of Technology District’s Science Department is designed to encourage students to understand the nature of science by acquiring critical skills through the implementation of the scientific method, model-based inquiry, and laboratory practices. All curricula and course sequencing were designed to allow for an easy transition for students from one year to the next by building on their content knowledge and enabling them to communicate effectively, think critically, solve problems, utilize technology, work collaboratively, and develop as independent learners. This goal is facilitated through ongoing professional development by the staff, developing and maintaining curricula aligned to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and implementing inquiry-based lessons to encourage student-centered learning.
