MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BARUTI K. KAFELE

The 2008-09 school year is finally upon us and for that reason, “I’m on FIRE!!!”  I am excited about the prospects and possibilities that the new school year presents for all of us.  I anticipate and expect that 08-09 will be an absolutely extraordinary year with all of our students striving to achieve nothing less than academic excellence!

My first day on the job at Newark Tech was July 1, 2005.  My current seniors – the class of ’09 and I entered Newark Tech together.  Now three short years later, they are entering their final year of high school.  I have watched them grow over the past three years into fine young men and young women.  I expect that in their final year of high school, they will do all that is required to ensure a smooth transition into either college or the world of work.

I am also excited about the progress that Newark Tech has made over the past three years.  When I arrived at Newark Tech back in 2005, we were on the “Schools in Need of Improvement” list under No Child Left Behind.  Well, here we are three years later and I am pleased to announce that we have been removed from this list, due to the hard work of the entire Newark Tech family.  We are now ready to soar to even higher heights.

Within our school district, which includes Newark Tech, many new exciting changes are occurring; particularly in the area of vocational education.  At Newark Tech, this translates into the clustering of our shop classes into the following four clusters:

  • Health Careers Academy

  • Business Technology

  • Automotive Technology

  • Construction Technology

Upon graduation, our students will have significant options and opportunities, predicated on the coursework they accumulated here at Newark Tech.

Again, I am looking forward to a tremendous school year for the entire Newark Tech family.  Parents are invited to come down to the school or reach out to me or my staff whenever you like.  As our motto states:  We’re on the move.  We’re moving forward.  We are taking care of business.  As long as all of us continue to work together in a collaborative effort, our students will be on their way to living their dreams!

Have a great 2008-09 school year!
