PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Mr. Oge Denis, Jr.
Welcome to Newark Tech, home of the Terriers! Congratulation to members of the "Class of 2016" for their acceptance into Newark Tech, and welcome all new staff and students into our Terrier Family. Our motto for the 2012-13 school year is “The Pursuit of Excellence!!

I anticipate another great school year!! Newark Tech has been recognized once again by U.S. News and World Report Magazine as one of the Top High School in the Nation. The class 2012 scored 99% proficient in Language Arts section and 88% proficient in the mathematics section of the High School Proficiency Assessment.

Tony Dungy once stated that the first step toward creating an improved future is developing the ability to envision it. Vision will ignite the fire of passion that fuels our commitment to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to achieve excellence. Only VISION allows us to transform dreams of greatness into the reality of achievement through human action. VISION has no boundaries and knows no limits. Our vision is what we become in life.

We are all principals, vice principals, teachers, guidance counselors, and students, and our first and foremost position is that of an educator. As an educator, it is my aim to work with both teachers and students to ensure that all members of our school’s community reach their highest potential.

As we transition into the new school year, each individual class has its own separate mission as follows:

Seniors – You are the leaders who will exemplify the essence of excellence! Dr. Peter F. Drucker a management expert, author and teacher stated: that effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes. Each of you must focus on having your best year ever in an effort to increase your GPA's to the highest possible average. You must also focus on improvement on your SAT's, acceptance into college, attainment of scholarships and the pursuit of careers.

Juniors – By the time we get to our spring standardized assessments, which include the HSPA in March, I expect that not less than 100% of our students will achieve proficiency in Language Arts and Mathematics. Our expectations and standards continue to be extremely high for all of you. In an effort to increase the probability for achieving our goals on the HSPA, all juniors will have a mandatory additional period of instruction in HSPA preparation on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, beginning on a date to be determined in September.

Sophomores - You now have one year under your belts and now have a better handle on the high school experience. You must now "step up your game" as you have one year before you reach that crucial junior year. You must also work on correcting whatever mistakes you may have made in your freshman year which will include working diligently to raise your GPA's.

Freshmen - You are embarking on a new journey - your high school years. You MUST start off strong. You must strive to achieve a 4.0 (straight A's) in your first marking period and beyond. You must not allow yourselves to start off in a hole. I anticipate and expect that you will soar as a freshman class as the Mighty Newark Tech!

I look forward to a most productive and an exciting school year. The potential for greatness, and your plan is to be incredible, despite any obstacle or circumstance, Always remember this saying… “At the end of the day, IT IS WHAT IT IS, SO HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS!!!
