Young Women's Empowerment at Newark Tech

Character education is sometimes a missing component in the educational setting. The NJ Department of Education recognizes how critical it is for achieving success in all aspects of academic life. There are guidelines within the NJ Core Curriculum Standards to address character education and the development of leadership qualities.

The Young Women's Empowerment meetings at Newark Tech are designed to foster character education, leadership skills and community responsibility. Beginning this fall, the YWEP will implement a "Rites of Passage" program that will include group mentoring, reading groups, community service projects and speakers on contemporary women's issues.

The Phenomenal Sisters! Empowerment group of Newark Tech brought donated toys to children that attend George Washington Craver Elementary School, in East Orange, New Jersey. Mr. The toys were donated from students and staff throughout Newark Tech. There was such an abundance of items donated, we were able to contribute to several charitable services, including The Metropolitan Baptist church and Covenant House. The gifts were wrapped and distributed by the members of the Empowerment group.  During the visit Mrs. Raney lead the young children in a sing-along “ Simon says” holiday song. The Phenomenal Sisters! had a terrific time, and were thanked by the host’s shool’s staff with tasty refreshments and many warm smiles.
