West Caldwell’s FBLA Sponsors Entrepreneurial Seminars

On October 16, in the first of a series of workshops and lectures relating to student entrepreneurship, West Caldwell Tech’s FBLA invited Patricia Goldberg, the President and CEO of TRANZLATIONS, INC. to speak to our bi-lingual students about career opportunities in the field of translation and interpretation.

The students heard about how TRANZLATIONS pairs businesses in need of translation services with individuals who have that skill.

During the 45 minute discussion, students also learned about the income potential such a service commands. Spanish to English service can earn 30 to 40 dollars per hour. One of the students in attendance has American Sign Language skills in addition to being bi-lingual and she was told that ability is typically paid 70 dollars per hour of contracted time.

One interesting fact presented is that people offering this service usually do it on a free-lance basis, supplementing a regular income and working on their own schedule.

Mr. Valickas, Mr. & Mrs. Goldberg, Ms. Chapman & FBLA Students

After Ms. Goldberg’s presentation, her husband, Marc, who built a court reporting business and then sold it for a large profit, explained the qualities and procedures necessary to start and operate small businesses and how to recognize and seize opportunities as they present themselves.

Ms. Chapman, Business Tech Instructor and FBLA Advisor, asked Mr. Goldberg what was one of the necessary tools to be successful as an entrepreneur, and he responded that the ability to communicate effectively was probably the most vital.

After the presentation, a Question and Answer session was conducted with many interesting inquiries being fielded by our guests.

Ms. Chapman, Mr. Valickas and the assembled students thanked Mr. and Mrs. Goldberg for their time and expertise in sharing their knowledge of the business world with our “Eagles”.
