Bloomfield Tech Art Students Winning Work Displayed at NJPAC

Bloomfield Two Bloomfield Tech students placed among the top 20 finalists in a statewide contest sponsored by the Art Educators of New Jersey and their original works of art were chosen to be displayed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

Students Shelly George and Anais Lema, both juniors at Bloomfield Tech, placed in the top 20 out of more than 200 students statewide who participated in the statewide contest whose original art works will be part of a 2010 calendar.

“I’m pleased to recognize these Essex County Vocational Technical Students who showcased their talents and creativity through their artwork and represented Bloomfield Tech at the statewide level,” said Superintendent Michael A. Pennella, Ph.D.

Principal Eric Love said, “I am very proud of the students and their work. They represent the fine work that is being done here at Bloomfield Tech.”

George, of Orange, and Lema, of Newark, were nominated by their classmates and Art Teacher Indira Bailey, to participate in the contest. They were recognized for their achievements at a reception at NJPAC in September.

George submitted a picture she painted of ballet shoe and dress being reflected in a mirror. Lema, using colored pencil, depicted a little girl eating an ice cream cone. Both students said they were pleased to be recognized in the contest. “It felt good,” said George.

“This is Shelly and Anais’s  second year in the Illustration Cluster of Advertising & Design Course,” said Bailey. “I plan this school year to do many more art shows with my students.  This is going to be a great and creative school year.”

Their art work will be on display in the Victoria Theater at NJPAC until December.
