YEAR IN REVIEW

  • Recognized for the second consecutive year by US News & World Report as one of America’s best high schools for annual accomplishments including meeting 98% of the Annual Yearly Progress Benchmarks as defined by No Child Left Behind.

  • Students accepted prestigious award by New Jersey Governor John Corzine and Attorney General Ann Milgram for earning second place prize in the state’s annual writing competition concerning drug use. The drama students’ script “Proms and alcohol don’t mix” earned this very treasured state-wide prize.

  • The North 13th Street Culinary program had the privilege of providing catering services for Essex County’s “Earth Day” hosted by Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincezno with food and pastries.

  • Hosted NJ Congressman and Barack Obama super-delegate Donald M. Payne for his very important motivational program on New Jersey business practices to our ever-expanding accounting and business related courses.

  • Hosted Essex County Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. for lecture series on county law & public safety expansion.

  • Law & Public Safety students were the sole invitee’s by County Executive Joseph N. DiVincezno for Essex County’s Grand Opening of the Jury Assigning & Hearing Room.

  • Expanded Law & Public Safety academy to include revolutionary forensics lab and Geographical Information Systems course. Made multiple trips to County Police Academy to allow students to learn outside of the classroom and additionally students participated in the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Summer Internship Program and graduated from the Junior State Trooper Academy.

  • Students consistently served a cause greater than their own self interests with record levels of community service including, Newark’s Good Will Rescue Mission, Newark’s annual walk for breast cancer, donations and participation in national denim day for breast cancer, The Susan G. Komen cure for the walk, and the national support the troops letter writing contest.

  • Class of 2008 students, who earned record setting test scores, graduated with a record number of students enrolling in post secondary institutions.

  • North 13th Street Work Study Program developed partnerships with local and state businesses such as PSE&G, Strauss Auto, and the Essex County Department of Economic Development.

  • North 13th Street’s Volleyball team won the Northern New Jersey Interscholastic technical league’s championship, going undefeated throughout the tournament and ending the season with a 24-6 record.

  • North 13th Street’s baseball team advanced for the first time in the school’s history to the second round of the state tournament.

  • Expanded school organizations to include robotics team, Anime club, drama club and more. Additionally current organizations competed in Essex County inter-school debates and various volunteer activities.

  • Infused all Mathematics and Language Arts classrooms with the latest technology including limitless amounts of computers and software as well as smart boards in each and every classroom.
