Yearbook Committee

The Yearbook commemorating the 78th class of the North 13th Street Center of ECVTS promises to be outstanding. This year's publication will showcase our senior's talents and skills as they are ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century.

In order to ensure quality and scope of this publication, we once again need everyone's help. Staff members, parents, and students have been working diligently on photographs and information that will be included in this year's edition; however private sponsorship is needed to cover the cost of publishing.

Your personal contribution and sponsorship are vital to the success and will make all the difference in creating a great Yearbook. This Yearbook will capture and highlight the year's special events along with each student's special smile.

Please consider sponsorship via full or partial page professional advertisement.

Full page advertisement: $220.00
Half page advertisement: $110.00
Quarter page advertisement: $60.00

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

The North 13th Street family celebrated Hispanic Heritage month from September 15-October 15th. Various activities and fundraisers took place throughout the whole month. To close a month of celebration Mrs. Cabrera, Mrs. Sánchez, and Mrs. Pepper worked collaborative in the preparation of the first Hispanic Heritage Moth Festival, which took place on October 16th 2009. It was a wonderful event that highlighted the culture, food, music and history that make the Hispanic Culture such a rich one.

Our students and staff shared talents and abilities that are not often displayed in the classroom. The culinary arts students, once again, showcased the magnificent skills learned from their phenomenal instructors, Mr. Boon and Mr. Encarnación. The food and drinks were great! Several staff members and all Spanish 1 & 2 classes supported this event by bringing dishes from home. Thank you to all the parents who assisted in making this a joyous occasion in celebration of our Hispanic population, but most importantly see how we are all inter-connected.

Web Design

Congratulations to Nasir King and Ashley Cox for their creative talents in designing a new school logo to be used on the uniforms! Ms. Riccardi's Web Design Intermediate Class participated in an extra credit activity for Ms. Jeter and the results were amazing. It was not easy to choose, but the designs of both Nasir and Ashley combined are just what is needed to accurately depict the school in a logo. Look for the finalized logo to start appearing on uniforms soon!

Robotics Team Begins Building and Designing a New Robot

Robotics

Continuing with the great success the robotics team found during the 2008-2009 school year, the robotics team has been meeting three times a day since September. This team provides an amazing opportunity for our students to learn valuable skills not only in designing and building a robot, but in computer programming, fund raising, competition, and responsibility. In addition, any student who participates is eligible to apply for over 12 million dollars in scholarships, and we encourage all students to participate. We also encourage parents with further questions to join us for a meeting Monday thru Wednesday, and see our students at work.

Mr. Lorenzo's Biology Students to Raise Trout

Mr. Lorenzo's Biology Students to Raise Trout

This year will be the pilot year for Trout in the Classroom here at North 13th St School. On October 22 a representative from the Pequest hatchery dropped off over 300 trout eggs. So far students have been able to watch the eggs hatch into small fry (baby fish), and as the year progresses students will be able to interact directly with an important species in New Jersey, even learning valuable biological concepts through observation of the fish. This project will also allow students to attend a field trip to the Pequest hatchery, where they will be able to pick up a fishing pole and catch a trout or two! Finally, the program will culminate in June with students again leaving the classroom to release the fish into the wild, helping the species to make a comeback in our New Jersey waters. If you have any questions or would like to see the fish, please fell free to stop by Mr. Lorenzo's classroom anytime.
