PARENT NEWSLETTER~ November/December 2008

Visual and Performing Arts spent an extraordinary  Theatre day at Montclair State University.  The students took workshops in Musical Theatre/Dance, Stage Combat, and Acting/Improvisation.  After the various workshops taught by theatre professors and professionals the students headed over to the Student Union cafteria for a wonderful lunch.  The day concluded with a spectacular show Crazy for You.  The orchestra played Gershwin's score with Broadway talent.  All of the costumes were borrowed from the original Broadway show [we were told the costumes were valued at over a million dollars].  The students were exposed to their peers performing at professional levels.  All eyes were opened at the discipline, hard work and tenacity it takes for greatness.  It was an unforgettable experience for everyone.

FBLA had an outstanding month.  Students donated can goods and non-perishable items for the homeless.  FBLA would like to thank the No. 13th Street Faculty for donating to “Jeans Day.”  We collected a total of $310.00 which was used for the purchase of 16 turkeys and 6 hams.  A special thanks to Mr. Boon and the culinary students for cooking the turkeys and hams and to Mr. McNanna who did the shopping.

The National Honor Society awarded the top donator, Jakeary Cepeda, with a $50 to be used for any Senior Class activity of her choice.

Turkeys, hams and can goods were picked up by the Goodwill Rescue Mission in Newark on November 26.  FBLA members that donated had a Thanksgiving Breakfast on November 26, which was prepared by Mr. Boon and his students.
