Girls Basketball
Girl’s basketball at North 13th Street Tech faces a lot of challenges this season with the loss of four starters to graduation and being thrust into a very competitive division in the S.E.C., the Cougars certainly have their work cut out for them.
Senior captains Rachinique Harris, and Adriana Ascencio look to keep this very young team focused and ready for the difficult times which no doubt will face them this season. Senior Daisy Andujar and Ninth graders Dara Etim and Hailey Dias- Allen complete the starting five. Look to see contributions from juniors Claudia Glaude, and Denise Alicea. Sophomores include Amari Robinson, Renee Dudley, and Cynthia Torres. Ninth graders also looking to help are Mimi Andujar, and Waliyya Donaldson. And our managers Samarah Gayle, Inaya Haig- Andrews, Imani Santiago, and Karenleen Irlanda. Also Mama Cougar (Coach C’s wife ) will play a role throughout the season.
Coach Hank Cordeiro and Assistant Joe Sokolewicz in their first season look to the challenges that will face the team this year after moving up in the Super Essex Conference. With the theme of “Together We’re Better” everyone hopes to improve and have a respectful showing throughout this campaign “As long as we continue to work hard and stick together, we will be content with our results” states Coach C. It should prove to be an interesting season.

Boys Volleyball
Last season was a landmark year for the North 13th Street Tech boys volleyball team. The Cougars burst onto the statewide scene by landing in the Star Ledger’s Top 20 poll, while finishing with a 20-6 record. Led by third year head coach Mr. Johnson, the Cougars won the NJTAC Championship, held the highest team GPA in the school, and boasted six All-Super Essex Conference players. Two of those All SEC players, setter Cristian Barzola and outside hitter/opposite Francis Oduro return to lead a still dangerous and dynamic Cougar attack. Last year, the boys volleyball team held the highest team GPA in the school — maintaining this status will be a major goal of the squad this year. The Cougars will be one of the most exciting teams to watch play in the area this season.

Baseball
As a first year coach my mission is to take the baseball program at North 13th Street Tech to another different level. Using my skills and knowledge of baseball I plan on building a championship program that will encourage many baseball players into attending the school. We have a great group of young men who are talented enough to make an impact in the Super Essex Conference. With the help of my assistant coach I plan into building young athletes into great ball players. It might take lots of time and effort but working together anything is possible. My passion for this game has driven me into doing my best I could to help this kids reach the next level. Not only do I plan on building a championship team at North 13th Street but I also plan into getting my kids focused on their education, in the hopes of one day getting each of them into a college program where they could both play baseball and achieve their academic goals. At the end of the day, my main goal is to plant in these kids' hearts the same passion I got for this great sport. ~ Coach Florez

Girls Volleyball
The goal for the girls volleyball team is simple -- to push the girls to their full potential. From the very beginning, the freshmen team is introduced to the fundamentals of the sport, from learning how to take approaches to the basic rotations of the game. By the time they move up to Junior Varsity, there is no time to waste. Already having the basic knowledge of the game, they are now introduced to competitive play. We are one of the few schools with a freshmen program and are very lucky to have it. The first two years have become a crucial part of our success. By the time the girls make it to varsity, they have a profound understanding of the sport and what it means to play on a team.
As coaches, we want to push our girls to be confident in every aspect of the game. Yes, we are their volleyball coaches, but the lessons learned on the court can be carried over to life. Having three coaches who have played on the collegiate level has been very beneficial, we run a tough program and have high expectations of the girls. But our doors are always open, and we are always looking for dedicated girls who are serious about being on a team. The girls come in scared and nervous, but by their senior year, they are dedicated, hard-working, and confident young ladies.
