ABOUT GUIDANCE SERVICES:

The services of the Guidance Department are available to students, parents, and faculty. A counselor can help students: assess strengths and limitations; make suitable decisions; develop positive attitudes; choose courses that are appropriate; solve personal problems concerning family, friends, or teachers; discover talents and abilities; provide information on career, college, and post secondary opportunities; plan future education; discuss career options; discuss job search/preparation. The department also sponsors various theme meetings throughout the school year. These may include a Ninth Grade Parent Orientation Meeting, Eleventh Grade College Admissions Parent Meeting, College Night, and Financial Aid Information Night. Counselors are available throughout the school day for meetings with students individually and in groups. During Lunch when students are free, the counselors are available for either scheduled or unscheduled appointments.

PROGRAM PLANNING:

Each student should consider his/her own plans and, after conferring with parents, teachers, and the guidance staff, outline the subjects, which will be taken during grades 9 through 12. It is expected that these outlines will be reworked annually based upon the student's degree of academic success and changing objectives. Students and parents, with the aid of the guidance counselor, will formulate programs that reflect individual interests and aptitudes. Variations within these programs or combinations of subjects may be worked out to meet individual demands and abilities. The course descriptions that follow are meant to serve as a guide in this process.
