The Bloomfield Tech Campus of the Essex County Vocational Technical Schools was recognized as a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. This great honor was bestowed upon a total of only 323 schools across the nation and to only nine schools in the state of New Jersey. The entire Bloomfield Tech community is proud to be recognized with this great achievement and understand that it is a stepping stone to greater opportunities. The award represents a culmination of the years of hard work and dedication by each member of the Bloomfield Tech family.
The Bloomfield Tech Campus of the Essex County Vocational Technical Schools is located at 209 Franklin Street in the town of Bloomfield, New Jersey. Each year many students make the important decision to attend our school and receive an excellent education which will last them a lifetime. Our fine academic and technical programs are producing young men and women who will go on to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Students have the opportunity to select an area of concentration from our four Career Clusters, which include Business Technology, Visual Arts & Digital Communication, Building Trades Technology and our Green Energy Academy. Ninth grade students rotate through various classes in our Exploratory program which consists of the students spending a marking period in various concentrations from the different clusters. A student for example, might spend time in our electric shop and then spend a marking period in our graphic arts shop. At the end of the ninth grade year a student will make the important decision, with the assistance of a guidance counselor, as to what cluster they will like to enter as they move into the tenth grade.
We currently have various partnerships and outside learning opportunities for our students which include a partnership with PSE&G and a program with New Jersey Transit. The partnership with PSE&G is in its second year and offers our students in our Green Energy Academy first hand knowledge of the growing green energy field. No matter what career path a student selects, they will be able to gain the education they will need to go on to post secondary technical schools, major corporations, self employment, and higher education or military service. Bloomfield Tech graduates can be found all across the United States and the world working in many different occupations.
In addition to our Career Cluster program our students can take advantage of the fine academic programs at Bloomfield Tech. Our academic programs not only prepare our students to successfully graduate by passing the High School Proficiency Assessment, but also provide them with rigorous academics which will lay the foundation they will need to pursue higher education. Students can become gainfully employed while still attending high school through participation in our work-study programs. Many of our students are presently working for local businesses, private organizations or governmental agencies. Numerous community and regional employers have sought out our students because they are aware of the fine academic, vocational technical training the students receive at Bloomfield Tech.
Besides our 2009 National Blue Ribbon School designation, Bloomfield Tech was recognized as a Distinguished Title I School in 2008 and was one of only two schools in the state of New Jersey to be recognized with this honor. Bloomfield Tech has also been recognized in previous years as a Bronze award winner in US News and World Reports' list of the Best High Schools in the United Sates. In 2008 Bloomfield Tech was recognized by Business Week magazine on its list of the Best High Schools in America.
Students have the option to join several organized clubs such as Future Business Leaders of America, student council, National Honor Society and our Bloomfield Tech Green Club. Students also have the opportunity to represent the Spartans by participating in our athletic programs which consist of basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and baseball. Bloomfield Tech's athletic teams are also well known across the state, especially our boy's and girl's basketball teams which have participated in recent NJISSA Tournament of Champions finals.
Bloomfield Tech continues to meet the mandates of the No Child Left Behind law by meeting its yearly goals and has made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the past six consecutive years. It is on course to achieve its goals again for 2010. The meeting of these goals has been accomplished through the continued hard work of dedicated teachers, students, parents, support staff and administrators. With continued hard work by all stakeholders we will continue to meet our goals in the future. Go Spartans!
